STARKVILLE -- Mississippi State baseball coach Nick Mingione was hired as the new Kentucky coach, the school announced Monday.
A source confirmed the hire after Kentucky New Era first reported it.
"Nick Mingione is exactly the kind of coach we hoped to hire when we began our search," Kentucky Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart said. "His passion, tactical mind and tireless recruiting efforts made him an important part of Mississippi State's staff during some great years for the program. More than that, he is a man of substance who is committed not only to developing young men as baseball players, but as students and people. We are excited to welcome Nick, his wife, Christen, and son, Reeves, to the UK Athletics family."
Mingione spent the last eight seasons on the MSU staff under coach John Cohen. He first began as a volunteer assistant, coaching first and running camps. He became a full-time coach in 2013 after Lane Burroughs was hired by Northwestern State. He coached third and was the recruiting coordinator.
Mingione was an assistant at Marriner (Fla.) High school (2001), at Florida Gulf Coast (2002), at Embry-Riddle (2003-05), at Kentucky (2006-07) and at Western Carolina (2008) before coming to MSU. He served under Cohen while at Kentucky.
