Two men on a motorcycle allegedly fired a long-barreled gun at a crowd of people Sunday in east Columbus, pelting three people with bird shot.
The suspects parked a motorcycle in the 100 block of Beech Street at about 8 p.m. and fired down the street where several people were sitting and standing outside their homes, according to police.
The birdshot only broke the skin of one man, who was hit in the head. Another man was hit in the arm and a woman was hit in the back. The victims were not seriously injured and declined medical transportation.
Police were still unsure today what provoked the attack, if anything, and if any of the victims were targets.
The suspects, one of whom has been identified by police as 19-year-old Jerome Mitchell Jr., of 1408 17th Ave. N., were still at large today. They were last seen on the motorcycle, the make, model and color of which are unknown.
Mitchell has had several recent run-ins with police, including several burglary charges and a charge of aggravated assault in 2010.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-8151. An anonymous tip could be worth up to $1,000.
