That dreaded date on your calendar has arrived: Today”s the last day to file your federal 2010 tax returns.
Anticipating the flurry of last-minute filings, Columbus post offices are beefing up their staff today, said local U.S. Postal Services Post Master Reba Jenkins.
“We”re expecting to see an increase (in the amount of mail),” Jenkins said this morning. “I”ve got additional staff to cover the windows. Not really sure if we”ll need them, but we”ll see.”
Traffic started picking up for Columbus post offices Friday, which has been the filing deadline in previous years. The Internal Revenue Service pushed the deadline back three days this year because of a holiday in the District of Columbia.
Post offices in Columbus will be open until 5 p.m. today.
Columbus H&R Block tax professional Pam James said she”s also expecting to see a lot of last-minute filings and extension filings today.
“It”s just going to be busy,” she said.
