Two men armed with pistols took advantage of the power outage Wednesday to rob a married couple staying at the Columbus Master Host Inn.
The couple was sitting on the bed in their room with the door cracked at about 10:30 p.m. at the Highway 45 North hotel while Tennessee Valley Authority crews repaired a main transmission line that failed at about 4 p.m.
A man — who was described by police as black, 5 foot 9, with medium dark skin and clean cut, short hair and wearing a black vest — entered the candlelit room and asked to use the telephone, which was out, according to police.
He left and returned seconds later with another man, both brandishing handguns and asking for money, police reported.
The second suspect covered the couple with the gun while the first went through one of the victims” wallets, according to police.
The suspects, who fled the scene, have not been located. Anyone with information about the incident should contact Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
