The Columbus High School class of 2011 celebrated their graduation on Saturday with commencement services at Humphrey Coliseum at 9 a.m. on the Mississippi State University campus.
Rachel Claire Stanback was valedictorian and Danielle Marie Rogers served as salutatorian of the class of 236 people.
Principal Craig Shannon gave the presentation of class and Dr. Del R. Phillips, superintendent gave the class certification. School board president Glenn Lautzenhiser presented diplomas.
High honors graduate Hagen Walker had a large group of family attend to celebrate his graduation. He says that he is planning on attending Mississippi State University to study computer engineering after a summer class trip to France, England and Spain. On his high school experience, he says. “It”s been great, it hasn”t really set in that I”ve graduated yet, I can”t describe it.”
In addition to Walker, high honor graduates included Rachel Claire Stanback, Danielle Marie Rogers, Breanne Griffin, Shelley Clair Dornan, Ian Williams, Samantha Rogers, Lena Jackson, Meriweather Bean, Margo Friloux, Marissa Hackler, Zachary Thomas, Drew Jordan and Dylan Patel.
Honors graduates included Jerica Lechelle Cockrell, Courtney Lynn Freeland, Tori LaKesse Edwards, Kathlyn Alexandra Cornwall, Sparkle Nicole Jennings, Emily Sara Louie, Evonda Marie Hollis, Franshell Molina Ann Jones, Ryan Matthew Thompson, April Kashae Freelon, Phillip Jones Lowe, Ebone Shuree Love, Lauren Elizabeth David, Caneshia Lasha Dancer, Shayla Rodriannah Edwards, Kendall Gemund Jones, Bianca Shantel Woods, Patricia Lynn Hope, Tyler Gary Brock, Tre Marquese Baity, Elizabeth Bailey Barrett, Ryan Christopher McDonald, Christopher McDonald, Christopher J. Richardson, Clarice Shantara Williams, and Quentarius Dewayne Guyton.
Javoris Latham, age 12, attended the graduation to support his uncle, Julian McKinley, who he says he plays football with a lot. “I”m proud to see him graduate. I”m going to still see him a lot in college.”
“It”s been great, only good things to come,” added Walker.
