BROOKSVILLE — The hunt is on for the new Brooksville police chief.
The small, Noxubee County town of about 1,220 people has been without a chief since the former head of its six-officer department, Tina Williams, left for another job months ago.
But the town is hoping that”ll change this month. Its Board of Aldermen began to advertise Wednesday for a new chief with a starting salary at $35,000 and the promise of a “substantial merit increase” after a year on the job.
The town police chief is responsible for a number of duties, including overseeing the department”s three full-time and three part-time officers, preparing financial reports and budget estimates and overseeing federal grants.
The chief, according to the town, would spend about 60 percent of his time in the field and 40 percent in the office.
Among other qualifications, candidates must have a high school diploma or its equivalent, three to five years of experience as a supervisor, excellent communication skills and a valid driver”s license.
Benefits include health insurance, vacation and sick time, holiday pay, a state retirement match and funeral/bereavement pay.
Candidates should send a cover letter, résumé and at least three professional references to Monica Chandler at P.O. Box 256, Brooksville, MS 39739 by 5 p.m. June 23.
