A then-14-year-old Amory boy pleaded guilty in Clay County circuit court July 20 to statutorily raping an 8-year-old West Point girl.
Zaccheaus Vassar was sentenced to five years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with five more years of post-release supervision after that, by Circuit Judge Jim Kitchens.
Vassar molested the girl in April in an abandoned West Point house, according to court records. He was later found mentally competent to stand trial.
Also this term, the trial of Tameshia Shelton for the 2009 murder of Daniel Young was pushed back to October at the request of the Shelton”s attorney, who needed additional time to investigate, according to court records.
