Shots were fired Saturday night at the 2400 block of Fifth Avenue South, and Columbus Police are investigating the incident, Interim Columbus Police Chief Selvain McQueen said.
McQueen said Stanley Austin, of 2413 Fifth Ave. S., heard around 20-30 gunshots fired outside his home. However, he did not report it until the next morning when he found his car vandalized by the gunfire.
“He thought living so close to the police firing range they might have been firing at night or something,” McQueen said.
McQueen said the vehicle, a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, had a bullet hole in the dashboard and police found seven .380 caliber bullet casings around the area.
The offense, malicious mischief, is a felony, McQueen said, because it resulted in at least $500 worth of damage.
