A response to shots fired Sunday night in north Columbus resulted in a felony arrest.
Columbus police arrested Jerry White Jr., 33, of 2514 23rd Ave. N. in Columbus; he faces a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.
White was apprehended Sunday night but charged Monday night after police verified that he was convicted of a felony in Oklahoma City, Okla. He was charged with possession of stolen property in the Midwest city.
Police said White went to a local pawn shop in Columbus and purchased a weapon. Police did not reveal which pawn shop as the matter is still under investigation and pawn shops are supposed to do background checks before selling firearms.
However, when police responded to the 2500 block of 23rd Avenue North on Sunday night around 9:30 p.m., they made contact with White. After searching him, police found a .45-caliber handgun in his possession. Police do not know if White was responsible for the shots fired in the area.
White did not have a permit to carry the weapon and had outstanding misdemeanor warrants with Columbus, so he was taken into custody, police said.
His bond is set at $2,500.
