STARKVILLE — A Starkville man has been charged with murder in connection with the Monday shooting death of his uncle.
Kewon Doss, 18, was officially charged Tuesday.
Bond hasn’t been set for Doss, who shared a home at 1816 Stonewood Road with his uncle, 38-year-old Larry Davis.
Doss fled the scene after the shooting. He turned himself in to authorities Monday after a seven-hour manhunt.
Paramedics received a call of shots fired with injuries at 2:22 p.m. and later pronounced Davis dead at the scene. Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt said Davis suffered a single gunshot wound to the torso.
Chief Deputy Chadd Garnett said he’s unsure what sparked an altercation between Doss and Davis.
Carthage man arrested in armed robbery
The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office arrested one man Tuesday in connection with a Jan. 6 armed robbery, and investigators are still searching for suspects.
With the help of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, the sheriff’s department arrested Domonique Ashford, 28, of Carthage, and charged him with one count each of armed robbery and burglary of a dwelling after a two-person home invasion on Peterson Lane.
Commander Brett Watson said two men broke into an occupied dwelling and stole money and a cellphone from two people at gunpoint. The suspects then fled the scene.
One of the complainants helped identify Ashford, Watson said.
Ashford is awaiting a bail hearing and remains in Oktibbeha County Jail.
The investigation continues, and more arrests are expected.
The department is asking anyone with information about this case or other crimes to call 662-323-2421, the sheriff’s Investigations Unit at 662-324-8484, the Starkville Police Department at 662-323-4131, or Golden Triangle Crimestoppers at 1-800-530-7131.
