A man from Reform, Alabama, will spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing multiple children.
A jury found Mark Anthony Jewell, 45, guilty of first degree rape, sodomy, enticing a child for immoral purposes and two counts of sexual abuse of a child under 12.
Pickens County Circuit Court Judge James W. Moore Jr. on Saturday sentenced Jewell to life in prison without the possibility for parole for the rape conviction. Jewell was also sentenced to 50 years on the sodomy conviction; five years for enticing a child for immoral purposes; 15 years for one count of sexual abuse of a child; and 10 years for the other count of sexual abuse of a child. Moore ordered the sentences to be served consecutively.
State law mandates a sentence of life in the state penitentiary without the possibility of parole because the child who was raped was under six years of age, according to Andy Hamilton, who prosecuted the case.
Jewell allegedly abused several children on multiple occasions. His victims’ ages ranged from five to 10 years old at the time the molestation occurred.
Jewell was convicted in June.
