STARKVILLE — A suspect connected to reports of a shooting on the Mississippi State campus this morning was taken into custody, according Chief Communications Officer Sid Salter.
No injuries were reported and no other information was released, including the suspect’s name. School officials also said there were no confirmed reports of shots being fired.
A Maroon Alert was sent out just after 10 a.m. relaying that an active shooter was reported at Carpenter Hall. The suspect was taken into custody at McCool Hall. Students, staff and faculty were told to seek shelter.
Classes were suspended until 2 p.m. “Don’t attempt to leave classroom. Stay indoors. Do not attempt to go to your vehicle,” MSU Maroon Alert tweeted at around 10:55 a.m. An all clear was also issued.
Due to the report of an active shooter on the MSU campus, all campuses in the Starkville-Oktibbeha County School District were following lockdown procedures as well. Starkville Academy was also on lockdown.
An employee with English Department at Lee Hall who The Dispatch spoke with this morning said, “We’re doing fine but we don’t know anything.”
