WEST POINT — A man was shot to death Friday at Point Place Apartment and as of Saturday evening no arrest had been made.
Tim Brinkley, chief of the West Point Police Department, said that just prior to 7 p.m. Friday someone called 911 reporting that a person had been shot at the apartments on North Forest Street. Officers found a male victim inside an apartment complex. He had been shot in the head and after being transported to North Mississippi Medical Center he was pronounced dead.
Brinkley, in a media release, declined to identify the victim. The Dispatch contacted the police department Saturday and an official there said authorities would release no other information until Monday.
Alvin Carter, the Clay County coroner, did not respond to messages Saturday.
Brinkley, in his release, said a witness at the scene told authorities two armed men walked into the apartment.
“The victim was shot and the assailants fled on foot,” the release states.
Authorities say they are looking for two black males in their early- to mid-20s. Both are about six feet tall, according to the release, which also states “one was medium built wearing dark pants and a gray shirt and the other was described as slim and clad in blue jeans and a black jacket.”
Authorities say a motive is still under investigation and it is not clear if the victim lived at Point Place Apartments.
Brinkley said video surveillance taken from the area is being reviewed and images of the perpetrators were captured. The chief did not release the images to The Dispatch, however.
A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered through Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers for information that leads to an arrest in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call 662-494-1244.
