WEST POINT — Two men are facing capital murder charges following the shooting death of a 20-year-old inside a West Point apartment Friday evening.
Tevin Demetrius Hodges, 23, of 102 Green Hill Dr., in Starkville, and Nebauchedezzar “Slim” Townsend, 30, of 1030 N. Montgomery St., Apt. E, in West Point, are in the custody of the Clay County Detention Center.
West Police Chief Tim Brinkley said Hodges and Townsend are responsible for the death of Chaderick Strong, 20, of 1451 Kennedy Dr., of West Point.
The shooting of Strong occurred at Point Place apartments at approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday, according to Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter.
Brinkley, in a media release Monday afternoon, said robbery “appears to be primary motive.”
Authorities responded to the apartments on North Forest Street just before 7 p.m. Friday after receiving a 911 call about a shooting. Officers found Strong inside an apartment complex. He had been shot in the head, according to Brinkley. After being transported to North Mississippi Medical Center, he was pronounced dead.
Hodges was taken into custody without incident Sunday in Oktibbeha County by deputies with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office, according to West Point authorities.
Townsend turned himself into the Sunflower County Sheriff’s Office in Indianola about 8 a.m. Monday, according to West Point authorities.
Both suspects are slated to be arraigned in West Point Municipal Court today.
Brinkley said the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Golden Triangle CrimeStoppers or the West Point Police Department at 662-494-1244.
