An upcoming student-housing community will host a grand opening and lease-signing event for tenants looking for accommodations next academic year.
HELiX Starkville, an 802-bed apartment complex under construction at the intersection of Blackjack and Hardy roads, will host the 4-8 p.m. event Friday at The Mill Conference Center, located on Russell Street.
Work began on the approximately 15-acre development this spring, which will feature one-, two- and four-bedroom apartments and other amenities at the edge of Mississippi State University’s campus.
“The convenience of HELiX’s location is unmatched by anything else in the area,” said Michael Augustine, president of Homestead Development Partners, in a release. “Our residents will have significant opportunities to interact with friends and expand their social network, but to also dig in and focus on making their college experience everything it should be in terms of academics, personal growth and a lifestyle that will lead to great college memories.”
Oktibbeha County was chosen for the development because it scored well in numerous search criteria, including MSU’s growing enrollment and living requirements, Augustine said in April.
The project is one of two developments that are part of a tax increment financing (TIF) district previously approved by supervisors that, once initiated, will fund infrastructure improvements to the area.
Supervisors previously approved the $4.78 million-maximum financing plan last year.
Aspen Heights, another student housing development, opened in 2014.
