JACKSON — Authorities are searching for a suspect who officials say dragged a state trooper on his car in Jackson.
WLBT-TV reports the state trooper attempted to pull over a man on Highway 18 Sunday evening. Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper Eric Henry says the trooper smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.
When the trooper reached for the man’s license, the suspect took off, dragging the trooper about 100 yards.
A police chase ensued, but the suspect evaded officers after ditching the car. The search for the suspect is ongoing.
The identity of the trooper has not been revealed. Authorities say the trooper was taken to a medical center for minor injuries but is expected to recover.
