A Golden Triangle family dealing with heartbreak was dealt another crushing blow Monday when John “J.D.” Gentry, 11, died at University Medical Center in Jackson.
Gentry was injured when the vehicle he was riding in struck a logging truck about 6:30 p.m. Friday.
His father, John D. Gentry, 46, the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene. J.D.’s two brothers, ages 6 and 9, were transported to OCH Regional Medical Center. J.D. and his 6-year-old brother were later sent to Jackson for treatment.
The 9-year-old was treated and released. The 6-year-old was last reported in critical condition.
The driver of the log truck, Starkville resident Eddie Wooten, 59, was transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries. His passenger, Starkville resident Charlie Rodgers, was unharmed, officials said Friday.
A third vehicle also collided with the overturned logging truck. Its driver, Durant resident Robert Lowe, 24, was also unharmed, officials said.
A GoFundMe donation page — Hope for the Gentrys — was launched Sunday. After two days of collections, more than 680 donations have accumulated more than $50,500 for the family.
