Authorities have charged a 22-year-old Columbus man with the armed robbery of a couple that occurred in downtown Columbus earlier this month.
Columbus Police Department officials say Tyree Sparks robbed a couple walking downtown on Third Street South, near Fred’s Store, on Nov. 8. The couple told authorities they were walking to the Riverwalk when two men robbed them at gunpoint.
Fred Shelton, the interim chief of police with CPD, said authorities are still searching for the other suspect.
Sparks is also accused of kidnapping and robbing a C&G railroad employee at gunpoint early on the morning of Nov. 4. Police say Sparks forced the man to drive to an ATM machine and withdraw money.
Authorities have also arrested Jamory Ross, 18, and Anthony Gilmore, 19, and charged them both with armed robbery in connection to an incident that occurred Monday evening at Sandpiper Apartment on Eighth Street North. Police say Ross and Gilmore — along with another suspect police are still searching for — robbed a man at gunpoint outside the apartment’s.
Sparks, Ross and Gilmore all remain in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
