JACKSON — A Clarksdale police officer remains in critical condition following a weekend shooting.
Assistant Police Chief Robbie Linley says 39-year-old Cpl. Derrick Couch, of Southaven, Mississippi, is being treated at a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Linley says Couch is a bit more responsive Tuesday, but still has a long road ahead of him. Couch was shot in the face Saturday after investigating a convenience store robbery.
Police have arrested 19-year-old Johnny Robinson Jr. on charges of attempted murder and armed robbery. He’s being held at the Coahoma County jail on $700,000 bond.
A second suspect in the robbery, 20-year-old Leandrew Booker, was arrested Tuesday on an unrelated outstanding warrant from the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Linley says he’s being questioned about the robbery, but has not yet been charged.
