One man was killed and two others transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle Wednesday afternoon after a tractor-trailer collided with a white Ford pickup on Highway 45 South, according to a release from the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Eddie James Jethrow III, 24, of Columbus, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant, according to the release. Jethrow had been riding in the rear passenger seat on the side of the car that was struck by the tractor-trailer.
Officials with MHP, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and the Lowndes County Fire Department all responded to the accident which occurred a little before 2 p.m. just across from the Prairie Pointe Chevron station on Frontage Road.
According to a release from MHP, the pickup was traveling east on South Frontage Road when it entered the intersection of Highway 45 and was hit by the tractor-trailer, which was traveling north.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Ronald E. Stamey, 41, of Cleveland, Tennessee, was not injured.
The driver of the pickup, Fitzgerald Roby, 30, of Brooksville, was transported to BMH-GT with moderate injuries. Passenger Collin Robinson, 19, of Crawford, was transported to BMH-GT with serious injuries.
MHP is still investigating the incident.
Noxubee fatality
A Macon man has died following injuries sustained in a Tuesday morning accident involving a tractor-trailer and a car in Noxubee County.
John Carr Gauntt, 47, died at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo Wednesday morning after the 1998 Peterbilt tractor-trailer he was driving overturned and collided with a white 1998 Cadillac Deville, according to a release from MHP.
The accident occurred at about 6:15 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 45 South and MS Highway 388. Trooper Gregory Bell said Gauntt was traveling north on Highway 45 when he attempted to exit onto Highway 388. The truck rolled onto the driver’s side and slid into the rear end of the Cadillac.
Gauntt was transported to Macon County General Hospital and then to NMMC.
The driver of the Cadillac, Tedrick Patterson, 39, of Brooksville, was transported to Macon General Hospital with minor injuries.
