West Lowndes High School has lost its principal.
Lowndes County School District Superintendent Lynn Wright confirmed to The Dispatch on Wednesday that Dr. Cynthia McMath resigned from the position Friday.
She had held the post since 2014. No information was publicly released by the district regarding the resignation prior to The Dispatch inquiring about it.
Before becoming principal at the high school, McMath was principal of West Lowndes Middle School from 2007 to 2014 and worked at the central office prior to that.
Calls to the high school went unanswered and McMath was otherwise unavailable for comment.
“She just resigned Friday, so that’s all we have right now,” Wright said.
He said WLHS assistant principal Dr. Greg Stephens will serve in McMath’s position in an interim capacity until a new principal is found. McMath’s resignation has not yet been accepted by the Lowndes County School District Board of Trustees, Wright added, and it will be reviewed at its next meeting on May 11.
