A Starkville man died after an automobile struck him as he biked down Old West Point Road Tuesday.
Starkville Police Department responded to the incident about 10 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders found Jimmie McMorris, 56, unresponsive.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt.
McMorris’ body was sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab for an autopsy.
A SPD spokesperson declined to characterize the incident as a hit and run, and the department released no further details about the ongoing investigation.
As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests had been announced in connection to his death.
“(McMorris) worked diligently every day picking up litter in the Cotton District and on our city streets. Terrible tragedy,” tweeted Ward 4 Alderman Jason Walker, who represents the Cotton District.
