A group of officials from Morocco stopped in Lowndes County lasted week to get a look at local industrial prowess.
Mississippi State University and the Mississippi Development Authority hosted the visiting officials from Morocco.
MDA spokesman Jeff Rent says officials from the Moroccan capital of Rabat visited Mississippi as part of an effort to build stronger economic ties and cultural relationships between the state and the Rabat region.
During their stay, the delegation stopped by Steel Dynamics and PACCAR Engine Company.
“A delegation from Morocco visited the Golden Triangle (Thursday) as part of a tour that was organized by the Mississippi Development Authority to give the guests a look at the manufacturing environment in the Golden Triangle” said Golden Triangle Development LINK CEO Joe Max. “Existing meetings prevented me from attending, however I understand from our colleagues at MDA that the visit went well.”
He says officials signed two agreements to cooperate in research, agriculture, forestry, transportation and energy and explore potential business opportunities.
The group also visited the Port of Gulfport, the Ingalls Shipbuilding Plant and the Mississippi State University campus since arriving on May 8. MSU has a joint degree program with the International University of Rabat.
Rent also says the delegation paid for its own transportation to Mississippi. The group will return to Morocco Friday.
