JACKSON — Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant was among a group of Republican governors meeting with presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Bryant met with Trump in New York Tuesday alongside Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey.
Spokesman Clay Chandler says he doesn’t know what Bryant and Trump discussed. Chandler says Bryant was returning to Mississippi Tuesday.
The others say they and Trump discussed governors’ efforts to improve state economies and strengthening national security after the shooting at an Orlando, Florida, nightclub.
Fallin says the governors want better background checks on refugees before they enter the United States. Bryant opposes Syrian refugees being resettled in Mississippi.
Bryant endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the primary, but shifted to Trump when he clinched the nomination.
