A Columbus police officer who allegedly got in an altercation with a citizen outside McDonald’s Wednesday will go before the city council on July 5.
Assistant Chief of Police Fred Shelton confirmed the officer is Kenyatta Blair and that she was on duty when the altercation occurred. The CPD is conducting an internal investigation. The results of the investigation will be presented at the city council meeting on July 5, Shelton said.
Tupelo television station WTVA reported Blair removed her gun belt, untucked her uniform shirt and did not turn on her body camera before confronting the citizen she fought in the parking lot. The CPD could not confirm that information, Shelton said.
The altercation occurred at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the McDonald’s on Alabama Street after Blair signed out on the radio to speak with someone, according to a CPD release.
Blair is on paid leave following the fight. Neither she nor the citizen received serious injuries in the altercation and no arrests have been made. Authorities believe the altercation was personal and not related directly to Blair’s duties as a police officer.
