Columbus Municipal School District Superintendent Philip Hickman has received a national certification.
The School Superintendents Association, or AASA, in a press release, announced that Hickman is one of 20 superintendents to receive the National Superintendent Certification.
The National Superintendent Certification, created in 2013 and tailored for superintendents with five or fewer years experience, involves an 18-month certification process. The process includes seminars, forums and coaching on an array of issues, including instructional leadership, budget management, effective technology use, managing superintendent-school board relations and creating career paths.
“The challenges of a superintendent can be particularly daunting, as I have witnessed firsthand,” Hickman said in the release, “which is why AASA’s National Superintendent Certification program was such a positive experience for me. The program focuses on sharpening the key skill successful superintendents need to thrive.”
