A teenager in Starkville has been arrested for assaulting a police officer.
Garrett Blake Butler, 19, was arrested Saturday and charged with two counts of simple assault on a police officer, according to a press release from the Starkville Police Department. He also obtained a slew of misdemeanor charges, including possession of paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
The incident occurred at the Walmart store on Highway 12, SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said. Lovelady did not release further details by press time.
Neither the officer nor Butler were injured, Lovelady said.
Simple assault on a law enforcement officer is a felony in Mississippi.
Butler is still in custody at the Oktibbeha County Jail. His bond has been set at $21,482.75. He is expected to appear in Starkville Municipal Court today.
