The Butcher Shop is returning to Columbus in time for the holidays.
Bill Mason’s shop, located at 108 13th St. N., closed after more than 20 years in business following an electrical fire in December 2015. Mason has been repairing the location since March. It will finally reopen Monday.
In addition to custom-cut, house-marinated steaks, chops, chicken and other grill items, The Butcher Shop offers smoked, fried and roasted turkey or turkey breast, and other holiday meats. It also offers wild game processing services with a 24-hour self-service drop-off cooler that is already available to hunters.
“We’ll be reopening in time to take holiday orders,” said Dawn Mason, the owner’s daughter. “We’re excited for our customers to see our new shop.”
Additionally, a new restaurant is coming to East Columbus in the old Shipley’s location.
Noisy Joe’s is a Blues-themed Soul Food restaurant planned to open Dec. 1 at 2526 Main St.
The business will be open from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday and Monday, with extended hours from 11 a.m.-1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
A new locally operated transit service has opened for those making flights out of Memphis, Tennessee and Birmingham, Alabama.
Friendly City Express opened Oct. 31, operated by owner Bryan Jones of Caledonia and general manager Rick Michaels of Columbus. The business offers transportation to and from Birmingham International Airport and Memphis International Airport, beginning trips each morning at 6 a.m. and making two trips each per day.
The business utilizes two new, 15-passenger vans and one eight-passenger van, each of which is wi-fi hotspot equipped for business on-the-go. It also has prepared luggage trailers for when extra space is needed.
Although centered on aiport shuttle services, Friendly City Express has provided transportation services for various groups in the community.
Michaels said they try to offer affordable transit, with prices at $70 for a Memphis round trip and $65 for Birmingham, while also providing “quality, dependable and safe transit.”
As a side note, today is national vanilla cupcake day, so dessert lovers should feel free to get out and indulge with some locally baked vanilla goodness.
