One man is dead and another in custody following a fatal shooting in Noxubee County.
Noxubee County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested Cerdic Carter for allegedly shooting two people — one fatally — on Gillespie Road in Noxubee County Sunday night, according to Noxubee Sheriff Terry Grassaree.
Noxubee County coroner R.L. Calhoun identified one of the victims as 34-year-old Andrew Sherrod of Macon. Calhoun said it appears Sherrod was shot twice — once in the lower back and once in the side. He was taken to Noxubee General Hospital where he died at about 8:30 p.m.
Medical examiners at the Mississippi State Crime Lab in Jackson will perform an autopsy, Calhoun said.
Grassaree identified the other shooting victim as Deangelo Martin. He is expected to survive.
Authorities will charge Carter with aggravated assault in Martin’s shooting, Grassaree said. He said Carter will also be charged in the killing of Sherrod, but the exact charge has not been determined.
Carter is originally from Columbus but has been living in Noxubee County, Grassaree said.
