The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a former Caledonia High School teacher for alleged sexual misconduct with students.
In an email press release, LCSO confirmed investigators are looking into reports the teacher engaged in the misconduct with multiple students both in and outside Lowndes County.
Investigators did not release the suspect’s name, and Chief Deputy Marc Miley confirmed there has been no arrest made in the case.
“We’re in the preliminary stages of the investigation,” he said.
Miley said employees of Lowndes County School District filed the report with the department. He added the incidents allegedly happened in Lowndes and possibly one other county, and that multiple high school students may have been involved.
County school district superintendent Lynn Wright confirmed the district is aware of the investigation but did not release the teacher’s name. Wright did say the person is no longer employed with the district as of Friday, but declined to say whether the teacher resigned or was fired.
