At least one person was injured in a Tuesday afternoon shooting on Seventh Avenue North.
Assistant Police Chief Fred Shelton said the department received a call to OK Foods, located on the corner of Seventh Ave. and 18th Street North, at about 2:15 p.m. He said a male victim, in his late 20s, was injured by gunfire in his upper body.
The victim’s injuries did not appear at the time to be life-threatening, and he was talking with responders as he was removed from the building, Shelton said.
Shelton said police recovered a handgun from the scene, and are working to confirm details of the events that led to the shooting.
“We’re investigating to see to see what happened and what’s going on,” Shelton said. “…It’s still under investigation and we’re trying to develop leads as we speak now.”
Shelton said an ambulance took the victim to Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle.
He added that Columbus Police Department is aware of another male gunshot victim, which may be related to the store shooting.
“We did get a call that there was a person with a gunshot wound that was dropped off at the hospital,” Shelton said. “We’re investigating that as well to see if that’s related to this situation.”
