A Columbus man is behind bars after allegedly stealing items out of employee sections of local businesses.
Rashard Vanquez Givens, 22, of 382 Stokes Road, faces two counts of burglary and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a press release from Columbus Police Department. Givens allegedly entered an “employee only” area of Books-A-Million and stole several items from employee lockers on July 16. The next day, he allegedly entered an “authorized personnel” only area at a doctor’s office on Hospital Drive where he stole a handgun from an employee’s purse.
Police took Givens into custody last week on a Mississippi Department of Corrections hold for probation violation, and charged him with burglary for the stolen items Wednesday.
Givens pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary larceny of an unoccupied dwelling in November 2013. He is currently on probation with MDOC for the charges and is in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center without bond.
