Fun Day with the Characters will be hosted at Leigh Mall this Saturday with costumed Disney characters presented by Kids’ Khoice, a new entertainment service that Roderick Smith is introducing to the Golden Triangle.
Smith’s entertainers bring to life beloved classic cartoon characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse alongside adored newcomers like Chase from Paw Patrol, Doc McStuffins and Kiann from the LionGuard. Smith said he has spent more than $1,000 on costumes alone in order to bring some more entertainment options for children in the area.
“There aren’t very many options for children’s amusement around here,” Smith said. “I had taken some classes on entrepreneurship and decided to follow my heart with it.”
Regarding his own favorite cartoon characters, Smith said he had been nicknamed “Mickey” by his cousin from Chicago and added his daughter “is crazy about Minnie Mouse.”
Smith’s “heart for the kids” will be on display at Leigh Mall, complete with nine employees who will alternate between costumes. Mr. Jay’s Photography will also be on-hand, and photos be available to be printed and framed the same day for $10.
Smith is already expanding his roster of characters, with a Curious George costume in transit and Sponge-Bob, Elmo and other Paw Patrol character suits to come.
A character will attend a personal party or event for $125, which covers the suit rental cost, employee’s wages and a personal gift-bag from your preferred character. Smith does ask for a $50 deposit to reserve dates. Reservations can be made via the Kids’ Khoice Facebook page, through email at [email protected] or by calling Smith at 601-604-7700 after 5 p.m.
In Starkville, a certificate of occupancy was issued earlier this year for a health and wellness center at 300 Greensboro St. That location is now home to Soulflower Healing Arts Studio and Soulflower Counseling.
The studio was created by Miki Bryant to, as she puts it, “provide a spiritual oasis for those looking to reawaken their soul’s true purpose.” In layman’s terms, the studio offers programs, exercises and other experiences to help maintain one’s physical and mental health.
The studio offers weekly classes in meditation, journaling and yoga. Additionally, the company hosts monthly workshops and offers a “tranquil escape from the business of life” in its “meditation room” and a “quiet place that inspires creativity” in its “mindfulness room.” These elements are all combined into a service that Bryant dedicates to the “care and feeding of the soul.”
The studio can be contacted at 662-268-8129 for class times and membership offers. The meditation and mindfulness rooms are available to the public on a drop-in-basis outside of class times.
Finally, J. Parkerson Jewelers’ opening will be slightly delayed. Previously Parkerson’s business was slated to open Friday, but the date has been moved to Sept. 5.
