Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a woman believed to have fled the scene of a deadly Monday night hit-and-run on Old Highway 25.
Investigators arrested 25-year-old Haleigh Brooke Singleton, of Quitman, Arkansas, on Thursday in Olive Branch.
Olive Branch Police Department assisted OCSO with the arrest. Deputies booked her in Oktibbeha County Jail on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries. Singleton posted out on $40,000 bond Friday afternoon.
The hit-and-run happened Monday night just north of Poorhouse Road near Starkville. D’Shante Nix, 23, of Starkville, was riding a bicycle when two vehicles hit him. The driver of one car remained at the scene, while the other driver, who investigators believed was the second to hit Nix, fled.
OCSO released a short clip of security footage that showed the male owner of a yellow-green car believed to have been involved in the incident. The department has recovered the car.
Lt. Brett Watson said the vehicle owner contacted OCSO on Thursday, and authorities later located Singleton, who was allegedly driving the car at the time of the incident.
While the video OCSO released showed a male by the car, Watson said it was a “very small clip” and did not show everything from security camera footage.
Watson said the investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are possible.
OSCO also received assistance from the Ecru Police Department, Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Amory Police Department, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Starkville Police Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol and Mississippi State University Police Department.
The department also expressed gratitude for the “many concerned citizens who have assisted and provided information” in the case.
