A suspect in the Thanksgiving shooting outside the Trotter Convention Center downtown is in custody.
Authorities found Undra Williams Jr., 25, of 2409 23rd Ave. North, at his home today and arrested him for the Nov. 23 murder of Cordell Lewis, according to a Columbus Police Department press release. Officers from the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force located him with help from Lowndes County Narcotics Task Force and CPD.
Lewis, 27, was shot on Fifth Street at about 1:20 a.m. as a crowd was leaving a party that had begun in the Trotter the night before. He was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where he later died.
During the party, which about 800 people attended, several fights had reportedly occurred. There were four police officers and two hired security guards at the event.
CPD is still investigating the shooting, with help from the Marshals, LCNTF, the District Attorney’s Office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the press release said. Anyone with information is asked to call 877-273-4552.
Following the shooting, Columbus City Council voted to reduce the hours at the Trotter Convention Center from 1 a.m. to 11 p.m.
