A convicted rapist living in Artesia was jailed for not reporting to the state Department of Public Safety within the 90 days required by sex offenders.
Daniel Mayberry, 57, was convicted of rape in upstate New York in 1992. Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office investigator Tony Cooper said Mayberry has been living in Artesia several years. Deputies arrested Mayberry Thursday when he did not report to confirm his residence, employment and other information with DPS.
Sex offenders by law are required to report their information with DPS every 90 days.
Mayberry is in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $7,500 bond.
