A man who Columbus police considered a “person of interest” in the April shooting death at the Everyday Club and Lounge has been arrested and charged with murder.
Marshall Ray Burgin, 25, of 1810 14th Ave. N., was arrested Monday in Prairieville, La., by the Prairieville Police department, charged with murder in the death of Quentin Spencer, 20. He remains in Prairieville awaiting extradition.
Columbus Police Department officials say Burgin had not been in Louisiana long when they acted on information he had recently fled the state.
Spencer was killed April 20 in a shooting at the club, located at 1603 Seventh Ave. N., which injured three more individuals, including Burgin.
Burgin was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with a gunshot wound to the abdomen the night of the shooting.
According to sources, a gun was found near where Burgin was picked up by an ambulance. Burgin was later transferred to an undisclosed hospital in Jackson for safety reasons, sources said.
The CPD is still uncertain how Burgin was shot during the incident. A second gun, a 9 mm pistol, was found inside the club by police.
The other victims were identified as Nydia Colenechie Wilson, 23, of Columbus, who was treated and released from Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle; and Trenne Lamonte Williams, 41, of Columbus, who was also treated and released.
The Everyday Lounge has been closed since the shooting. The small building, which is owned by Columbus Mayor Robert Smith and operated by a tenant, is surrounded by houses, a few businesses and apartments.
