The Columbus Packet newspaper is close to a change in ownership.
“We”ve had developments on it,” Roger Larsen, owner and editor of the weekly, said of the sale.
Larsen declined to comment further other than to note he plans to announce details of the changeover in his own publication. He said he would stay on for “a while” after the sale.
Details of the new ownership were unclear Wednesday, but multiple sources confirmed one of the new owners would be Columbus businessman Justin Shelton.
Aimee Shaw, the paper”s advertising director, confirmed via her Facebook page that the paper was being sold, but that it would continue to publish and she would remain an employee.
Current circulation for The Packet is 10,304, according to the Mississippi Press Association.
The paper comes out each Thursday and is distributed in Columbus, Starkville, West Point, Tupelo, Steens, Caledonia, Hamilton, Aberdeen, Macon and Brooksville in Mississippi and Millport, Vernon and Pickens County in Alabama.
