A Steens couple is accused of going on a spending spree to Walmart with someone else’s credit card after stealing the victim’s car.
Jeremy Glenn Vasser, 41, and April Joy Richardson, 39, were arrested Wednesday for a slew of charges, including fraudulent use of I.D. and felony taking of a motor vehicle.
Vasser and Richardson, who are in a romantic relationship, had been staying at an acquaintance’s home when they stole the acquaintance’s debit card, cash, personal items and vehicle, according to Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office investigators. They drove the vehicle to Walmart where they went shopping with the debit card.
LCSO Capt. Greg Wright said deputies caught Vasser and Richardson in the checkout lane at Walmart with several items and arrested them.
In addition to fraud and taking a motor vehicle, Richardson was charged with burglary, possession of a controlled substance and violation of parole. Lt. Tony Cooper with LCSO said the burglary charge is from Richardson having to break out of the victim’s home after stealing the items.
Richardson is currently on parole from Mississippi Department of Corrections after being convicted of burglary in May 2015. Her bond has been set at $23,120. Vasser’s has been set at $15,000.
Both Richardson and Vasser are in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
