Columbus man stabbed during West Point fight

West Point police are searching for suspects after a fight at an American Legion post on East Morrow Street left at least one person injured.

West Point Police Department Detective Ramirez Ivy confirmed that the department responded to American Legion Post 212, known locally as "The Hut," at 1:06 a.m. Sunday. He said the call started with a report of loud music and a possible fight.

Officers later learned that a man from Columbus was stabbed during the incident.

"He said he was a bystander," Ivy said. "He said he doesn't know how he was hit. He was pretty much just like anybody -- being a spectator at the moment. While watching the fight, the brawl shifted toward him and he got hit. He doesn't know who stabbed him."

Ivy said the victim, whose name he did not release, was treated for minor injuries at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and released.

Investigators are reviewing video footage, which Ivy said is "not very good," and have identified a few possible suspects. So far, no arrests have been made.

Ivy also said officers were first told that gunshots may have been fired during the altercation. He said the department has not been able to confirm that anyone was shot. However, he said the video shows that a gun may have been fired.

Ivy said some sort of event was going on at the American Legion post at the time of the incident.

"They have something going on just about every Friday, Saturday or Sunday," Ivy said. "It's like a little club inside, if you ask me."

Anyone with information about the incident can contact West Point Police Department at 662-494-1244.
