A Columbus man has been arrested for his involvement in what police initially thought was an accidental shooting Saturday.
Edward Lee Smith, 36, of 815 13th St. N., No. E1, has been charged with aggravated assault. Investigators with Columbus Police Department took Smith into custody earlier this week after he allegedly shot someone at Eveningside Apartments on 13th Street North at about 5 p.m. Saturday, according to a CPD press release.
At the time of the shooting, police reported the victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with non life-threatening injuries.
The victim initially reported the shooting was accidental, according to a previous press release, but investigators later determined that was not the case, Police Chief Fred Shelton said.
Smith has been released from Lowndes County Adult Detention Center after posting $25,000 bond.
