A 19-year-old suspect shot a victim last week at The Block Townhomes in Starkville while trying to buy marijuana, according to an affidavit presented in municipal court on Thursday.
Carson Clement, of Eupora, had his initial appearance in Starkville Municipal Court Thursday afternoon. During the appearance, City Prosecutor Caroline Moore read an affidavit that alleged Clement, during the Aug. 16 shooting, shot Bobby Spratt Jr. multiple times in the head and back.
The shooting happened at about 10 p.m. Spratt was taken to OCH Regional Medical Center, according to police, then immediately airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He has been reported as being in stable condition.
The affidavit did not specify whether Spratt was selling the marijuana.
Clement has been charged with attempted murder.
Further details of the shooting were unavailable Thursday. Starkville attorney Marty Haug, who is representing Clement, said he is still gathering information and potential mitigating factors before a potential bond hearing.
Starkville Police Department arrested Clement on Thursday. SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said Clement was found in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Task Force, on a felony warrant the department issued.
Clement is still in the Oktibbeha County Jail on a $250,000 bond. He’s currently scheduled to appear again in municipal court at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
