Hoover's Bakery, now located at 58 Highway 45 N. in West Point, will reopen under new ownership this October.

The Regional Foundation for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities, a nonprofit affiliated with Community Counseling Services, purchased Hoover's Bakery from Pat Smith upon its closure in 2017. The foundation bought and remodeled the former Wendy's building on Plaza Drive to begin the new business.

For customers who have missed the donuts and sausage rolls, all recipes will remain the same under its new ownership. CCS Chief Financial Officer Richard Duggin said Hoover's Bakery will hire up to five employees in hopes to train people with either mental or intellectual disabilities for the workforce.

In Starkville, Cappe's Steak and Seafood, at 105 Eckford Drive, was closed by owner Eric Hallberg in July, and that building is for sale. Starkville Properties has the 2,091 square foot building listed for $450,000. Hallberg is focusing on Cappe's in the Park -- located on Technology Boulevard -- and a new restaurant venture coming in 2019.

With all the construction on Highway 12, you might have missed Hallberg's new project: Chicken Salad Chick, 602 Highway 12, is expected to open this coming January. Hallberg is partnering with Cameron and Diana Parker to bring the Auburn, Alabama franchise to Starkville.

Cappe's in the Park, 60 Technology Blvd. in the Thad Cochran Research and Economic Development Park, will continue serving blue plate specials as usual Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

This weekend, a locally owned hardware store in Starkville will celebrate 80 years of business. East Mississippi Lumber Company, 300 Russell St., will offer free hot dogs and refreshments from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday and Saturday. If you have any weekend projects, you can also participate in the bucket sale, 20 percent off anything that fits in the hardware bucket this weekend.

Moving to Lowndes County.

If you're driving on Lee Stokes Road in New Hope, you can see the foundation has started for a new Dollar General. The dirt work has just begun at 1641 Pleasant Hill Road with a sign that states "12,000 stores and counting." A representative from Dollar General said the store will hire up to 10 employees and will likely open in early 2019.
