A Columbus couple has been arrested after authorities said they neglected a vulnerable family member.
Deputies responded to a home on Highway 373 Tuesday night in response to a domestic violence call, according to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release. The complainant, Teresa Haynes, 36, said she had been assaulted by her husband, Henry Lee Spencer Sr., 60. However, at the scene, deputies found an 18-year-old vulnerable adult living in “uninhabitable conditions,” the release said.
The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, and authorities contacted the Department of Human Services to help care for him.
Deputies arrested Haynes and Spencer at the scene. Both were charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult, and Spencer was also charged with domestic violence.
The victim is a family member of Haynes and Spencer, who were not providing the extensive care he needs, the press release said.
Haynes and Spencer are currently in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. Neither Haynes nor Spencer have had their bonds set.
