A Webster County supervisor’s son is in jail for the reported burglary of several mini-storage units in Maben.
Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jon Davis said deputies were dispatched on Monday to respond to a burglary report at Deweese Mini Storage on Highway 15 in Maben. Davis said deputies located three units, owned by one person, that had been burglarized.
The Maben Police Department had also been investigating burglaries at the business, Davis said. OCSO identified 29-year-old Clifton Tyler Burgess as a suspect with MPD’s assistance and had a warrant issued for his arrest.
Burgess was arrested on Tuesday and transferred to the Oktibbeha County Jail after the Mathiston Police Department stopped him on the side of the road.
Burgess is the son of Webster County District 5 Supervisor Doug Burgess. Doug Burgess confirmed the relation to The Dispatch on Thursday morning but declined to comment on the arrest.
Tyler Burgess’ bond has not yet been set, though Davis said it should be by the end of the day Thursday.
Davis said the case remains under active investigation and more arrests may be forthcoming.
