A Lowndes County man collapsed Saturday while sheriff’s deputies were questioning him about a vehicle accident. He later died at the hospital.
Robert Robertson, 70, crashed his pickup Saturday morning at the intersection of Spivey and Ridge roads north of Columbus, according to Coroner Greg Merchant.
Robertson left the pickup at the scene and went to his home — which Merchant said was less than a mile away — where Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies responded to question him about the single-vehicle accident. During questioning, Robertson collapsed and became unresponsive, and a deputy attempted CPR.
An ambulance responded to the residence and took Robertson to Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle, where he was pronounced dead, Merchant said.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating the case.
