A Columbus man has been jailed for cyberstalking and may face further charges after he reportedly threatened to kill a woman he has dated.
Larry McCorkle, 43, of 1038 Mike Parra Road Lot 20, was arrested Friday. According to Mary Huggins, an investigator with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, he had been harassing and threatening to kill the victim all day. That night, the victim called 911 and reported he was outside her home trying to get in and firing a weapon outside her residence, though Huggins said it did not appear any property was damaged in the shooting.
By the time deputies responded to the scene, McCorkle had left. The victim reported McCorkle “had been sending her text messages about killing her and her children,” Huggins said.
While officers were still speaking with the victim, McCorkle called the victim again and continued to threaten her.
McCorkle has been arrested and possibly faces more charges in the incident, Huggins said. She added McCorkle is a convicted felon with multiple non-violent felonies like burglary and has been accused of domestic violence incidents involving the same victim.
McCorkle is currently in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
