A Caledonia man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly shot at an area preacher.
James Taylor, 22, has been charged with attempted aggravated assault after he allegedly opened fire in the parking lot of a church off Jess Lyons Road.
Authorities said the church’s preacher reported Taylor was driving recklessly in the parking lot, and that there were other people in the area. When the preacher went outside and confronted Taylor, the suspect pointed a gun out the vehicle window and fired a shot at the preacher, according to Deputy Tony Cooper, head investigator with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
The preacher was not injured.
LCSO issued an advisory for Taylor’s vehicle, and an officer with the Caledonia Marshal’s Office pulled Taylor over in Caledonia later that day, said Marshal Kelvin Burdine.
In addition to the assault charge, Taylor faces multiple misdemeanors including second offense driving under the influence, reckless driving and indecent exposure. His bond was set at $10,000 for the assault and $3,020 for the combined misdemeanors.
He has been released from Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on bond.
