A Clay County man was arrested Monday for animal cruelty after deputies found three severely neglected horses on his property.
Perry Cummings, Sr., 66, has been charged with three counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty, according to a Clay County Sheriff’s Office press release. Sheriff Eddie Scott said Cummings owned three horses in the western part of the county off Highway 46. One of them was in such poor condition it couldn’t stand up.
After consulting with a veterinarian, deputies put down the horse, Scott said. The other two horses are in “poor condition but stable” and in the care of Horse Rescue of Lowndes County, the press release said.
The press release encouraged anyone with more information on the case to call CCSO at 662-494-2896 or the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
Cummings has been released on $1,182.75 bond.
