A Caledonia man and former president of a communications union will spend nearly four years in federal prison after pleading to embezzling thousands of dollars worth of union funds.
Danny Woodcock, 66, pleaded to embezzlement of union funds in August 2018. He spent 15 years as president of Communication Workers of America Local 83770 before being charged and removed from his post in 2016, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District.
CWA Local 83770 has between 300 and 400 members working primarily as aircraft mechanics, structural specialists and other maintenance personnel with L3 Vertex Aerospace, LLC, a contractor operating on the Columbus Air Force Base.
According to court documents, Woodcock embezzled nearly $300,000 between February 2013 and September 2016, by transferring thousands of dollars at a time from CWA Local 83770 to his personal bank account.
A federal judge in Oxford sentenced Woodcock to 46 months in federal prison, three years supervised release and more than $500,000 in restitution.
